Museum Teacher Ambassadors in action

RCM Museum offers unique opportunity to join Teacher Ambassador Programme

Thursday 10 October 2019

The RCM Museum is offering secondary school classroom teachers of music, history and art & design a unique opportunity to become part of the RCM Museum community through the Teacher Ambassador Programme 2019-20. Six teachers will be recruited as museum partners with the aim of sharing knowledge and expertise to support student learning and bring the RCM’s important heritage stories to life.

The RCM Museum has an exciting year ahead, with its new home currently under construction and due for completion in 2020 as part of the More Music: Reimagining the º£½ÇÂÒÂ×¹Ù·½ development project. The museum has been closed to the public since 2017, but will soon reopen its doors with brand new facilities and ways for students and the public to engage with its internationally-significant collection.

Teachers recruited to the Teacher Ambassador Programme will be offered the opportunity to attend a Learning Day on Friday 15 November, during which they will get hands-on with some objects from the museum collection, network with other professionals from the teaching and museum sectors and help develop high quality learning resources and programmes to support several strands of the National Curriculum.

Between March and April 2020, Teacher Ambassadors will, with the support of RCM Museum staff and RCM musicians, pilot newly-developed sessions and resources at their schools, allowing them to be at the cutting edge of heritage-inspired education. Participants will be encouraged to feedback on each pilot scheme, with their comments going on to shape the RCM Museum’s educational offer in the future.

Lydia Baldwin, RCM Museum’s Learning & Participation Officer, says: ‘The RCM Museum recognises the importance of creating workshops and resources that schools really want and need. We therefore want to work directly alongside enthusiastic teachers to pioneer new ground inspired by our unique collection.’

The Teacher Ambassador Programme is part of the Heritage Lottery Fund project to redevelop the RCM Museum. Recruited teachers will be offered cover fees of up to £200 to attend the Learning Day on 15 November 2019.

To find out more or sign up to the programme, please contact Lydia Baldwin by email or telephone before Friday 25 October.
