Strong National Student Survey (NSS) results for the RCM

Thursday 22 July 2021

The º£½ÇÂÒÂ×¹Ù·½ has performed well in the 2021 National Student Survey (NSS) achieving an overall satisfaction score of 85%. Scoring particularly highly in academic support, teaching and learning resources, the RCM performed consistently across all eight categories of assessment.

In a period where digital learning has been hugely important, students have had access to the best learning experiences and resources possible thanks to the RCM’s recent investment in facilities and digital resources. The RCM received the highest score across UK music conservatoires relating to students being able to contact staff when they needed to (97%), being able to access course-specific resources when needed (87%) and that their course was well organised and ran smoothly (80%).

The RCM Library achieved a score of over 90% for the fourth consecutive year reflecting recent investments in facilities. In 2020, we were the first institution to form a partnership with nkoda, the digital sheet music library, and from 2021 RCM musicians have also been able to use Henle Library, giving our students access to thousands of scores online.

RCM Director, Professor Colin Lawson said: ‘This year’s NSS result recognises the commitment that all of our staff have made to supporting students. Our recent investment in facilities and digital resources has greatly benefited students and their learning experience. I am delighted that the NSS feedback reflects this.’

The RCM is proud of its resourceful and resilient community of students and everything they have achieved during their studies. The College wishes our graduates all the best for the future.

The RCM is ranked top conservatoire for performing arts in the UK in the prestigious QS World University Rankings 2021 and has held this position for six consecutive years. We were also ranked top in Europe in 2020 and 2021.
