Gary Ryan appointed Head of Strings Faculty

Gary Ryan has been appointed Head of Strings at the º£½ÇÂÒÂ×¹Ù·½ and brings 'a wealth of experience’ to the role.

A classical guitarist, Gary has performed worldwide as a soloist, a chamber musician and masterclass leader. He is also a respected adjudicator and juror, sought out for his expertise in instrumental competitions including the prestigious BBC Young Musician of the Year.

Gary Ryan joined the º£½ÇÂÒÂ×¹Ù·½ (RCM) in 1996 as a guitar and academic professor and was later appointed Assistant Head of Strings.  

Director, Professor Colin Lawson, comments: ‘Gary brings with him a wealth of experience as a performer, composer, teacher and examiner. His appointment follows a wide-ranging and thorough search process and I’m thrilled that the Strings Faculty will benefit from his excellent leadership.’ 

Speaking of his appointment, Gary Ryan said: ‘It is a tremendous honour to be appointed as the º£½ÇÂÒÂ×¹Ù·½’s new Head of Strings. The RCM is a truly extraordinary musical environment which I consider my musical home and I am excited to lead the String Faculty forward into a new era, working in partnership with our outstanding students and world-leading professors.’
