Roberto is principal bassoon with the BBC Philharmonic and held the same chair at the Gran Teatro la Fenice di Venezia for twenty years. He was also solo bassoon with I Solisti Veneti (di C. Scimone) and a member of Il Quintetto Bibiena.

Graduating from Il Conservatorio G.B.Martini (Bologna) with full marks, and then Staatliche Hochschule für Musik und Darstellende Kunst Stuttgart, Roberto has won many competitions, including Cesena, Taranto, Meda and Stresa.

In 1993 he won the 43rd International Musik Wettbewerb der ARD (Munich) with Il Quintetto Bibiena, an ensemble that has enjoyed a busy and acclaimed concert schedule, also winning the Italian Music Critics Award 'Abbiati' in 2002.

Roberto is an eminent soloist, and has performed Vivaldi’s Bassoon Concertos at many of the world’s most prestigious venues, including the Concertgebouw (Amsterdam), the Lincoln Center (New York), the Palau de la Musica (Barcelona), the Salle Pleyel (Paris) and the Teatro alla Scala (Milan).

He has played Principal Bassoon with many leading orchestras, including Filarmonica del Teatro all Scala, Orchestra dell'Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia, Mahler Chamber Orchestra, Orchestra Sinfonica Nazionale Rai and Orchestra della Svizzera italiana.

Roberto has made regular radio and television broadcasts for Radio Audizioni Italiane, Radio France, bayerische Rundfunk, Suddeutscher Rundfunk, Vatican Radio and Radio Svizzera Italiana.

His discography includes the Mozart Bassoon Concerto (K191) for the Agorà label, a double CD of 14 Vivaldi Bassoon Concertos (Tactus), a programme of 'Arie d’Opera' (original transcriptions) for Bassoon and Piano (Tactus), 19th Century French music for Bassoon and Piano (Warner), Vivaldi Concerti with I Solisti Veneti (Warner) and 3 CDs with Il Quintetto Bibiena (Aura and Agorà).

Roberto has taught Bassoon at Conservatorio di Musica Benedetto Marcello di Venezia, Istituto Musicale Orazio Vecchi (Modena) and Conservatorio Pollini di Padova.

He has given Masterclasses at numerous Italian institutes, throughout Europe (including Viana do Casteo, Oporto and Rouen) and the Far East (Seoul).
